Sydney, Australia based production hot-house Sticky Pictures was awarded Best Children’s Production at the 2013 Screen Producers Australia awards for the animated comedy the Dukes of Broxstonia (Series 3).
"The Screen Producers Australia Awards grew out of a desire to honour and recognise Australian screen businesses who create and support high quality and outstanding screen content," said Screen Producers Australia Executive Director Matthew Deaner.
Created by Stu Connolly and Suren Perera, the series follows punk thrash band the Dukes of Broxstonia – the hottest band to come out of Broxstonia (and the only band to come out of Broxstonia) as they go on tour.
Donna Andrews – CEO/ Partner Sticky Pictures and Executive Producer on the Dukes of Broxstonia said: “It was a thrill to win the SPA award for the Dukes. The series is very funny, very loud, very clever and has a unique design look. We were up against some fantastic big budget live action series so it was great to see three crazy animated dudes from Broxstonia cut through.”
Stu Connolly – Partner at Sticky Pictures and Writer/Director/Producer on the Dukes of Broxstonia said : "The Dukes is a no-dialogue, board-driven show that's a lot of fun to make. We're honoured to be included in the awards. The Broxstonian government thanks you."
The Dukes of Broxstonia was commissioned by ABC3 (Australia) and Cartoon Network Asia Pacific, with distribution by Australian Children’s Television Foundation. It's produced as both 3 minute and 7 minute episodes.
The series was also recently nominated for Best Animated Series in the tweens/teens category at the Kidscreen Awards to be held in NYC in February next year. Dukes episode “Mojo” has also received a nomination for Best Short Animation by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts. The 3rd AACTA Awards will be held in Sydney in January 2014.
